The Elaine Niemi Scholarship Fund

To create passionate readers

Elaine

In honor of Elaine's heart and passion for children reading great books, this scholarship will be given twice a year to children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. The recipients will be children who demonstrate a genuine passion for reading, seen not only in the volume of books read but also in thinking about what they've read and sharing their reading passion with others.

This is a scholarship drawing that is designated for students who show excellence in reading or demonstrate a strong commitment to read well.

Every March 21st and September 21st, kids can be nominated by parents, teachers, or friends to be included in this scholarship drawing. Two student names will drawn to receive four complementary books from JAR's recommended list of Great Book Picks for a retail value of up to $75.

About Elaine

In 2007, Annie and Elaine's paths crossed when Annie was a struggling single parent with three children. Immediately, they connected as Elaine had a great interest in Annie's work as a children's author. Elaine encouraged Annie to keep writing because she knew children would love her books. She saw Annie as a very gifted writer that could bring a smile to a child's face. Such encouragement fueled Annie's motivation to stay the course and keep writing when life was full of challenges.
Elaine was a passionate reader, accomplished artist, community leader, real estate broker, amazing wife, and a wonderful friend to all she met. She grew up on Cape Cod and attended Falmouth High School and attended LaSalle Junior College and Boston State. She married her husband Alan, and they were happily married for 44 years. She loved traveling, sailing, and spending time with those she loved. Everyone who knew her was blessed because of her kindness, fairness, and respect for others.
